Pueblo Inglés

Pueblo Inglés

Want to spend a week in Madrid with all accommodation, meals, and wine provided free for 7 days? That’s what they are promising over at Pueblo Inglés. All they ask in exchange is that you be a native English speaker, and that you come prepared to help animate a crash course in English immersion.

The program seems to feature a largely conversation-based approach, with plenty of time spent one-on-one in small conversation. However, the program encourages participants to take their conversations out on a hike, or on a blanket before the sunset. Your days are pretty packed. The program starts bright and early at 9am, and runs into the late evening, giving it the feel of a summer camp for language-obsessed adults more than an intense immersion program.

Programs run all year long, making it possible for those who are interested to apply seemingly on a whim and start teaching only days later. In truth, the venues for these programs are set in smaller villages outside of larger cities like Madrid, but this could make it a great way to see some of the less traveled villages in Spain.

Is this program really all it says it is? It could be a fun experience to try for a week. Have you been to the Pueblo Ingles? How was your experience?

Hi my daughter was accepted to this program we live in the US and I know nothing about it except what I have seen on the internet. Would you say this is a safe program to send a teen to? I called our Spanish consulate and he was no help he told me to call her school, well her school is not involved.
    Thank you,
    Gina Duran

In the photo above, I stayed in the one storey unit on the left
in 2007 at Valledelavilla. This is the original site of an excellent
program that has expanded to many other sites. This summer
I will be doing my 7th participation. It is well worth it.

    Hi Gina,
My son has just returned from Pueblo Ingles. It was without a doubt a wonderful and worthwhile experience, and he has made new friends from all over the world. The Pueblo Ingles team take the care of the teenagers very seriously and from the moment they are collected at the airport they are well supported and looked after by the staff. I think this years teens programmes are now finished, but if your daughter didn’t go, I would definitely recommend that she goes next year – she will love it there.

My son has attended two weeks in Pueblo Ingles programs during the past two summers. He had a fabulous time and came back to the US with a new appreciation for studying languages and friends from all over the world that he keeps in touch with via email. The staff let us know he had arrived safely and took good care of him…even when he recklessly injured his ankle. It inspired my son to apply for (and receive) a year long scholarship as a foreign exchange student in Germany.
