Planning your finances to travel the world

I came across this article on Go Nomad that I’d like to call ‘Operation Vagabond’, without meaning to sound silly.

For those of you who are worried about having the finances to take extended time out and travel without worrying about becoming destitute in the process, this article gives you details on how to plan your finances pre, during, and post trip.

I was quite overwhelmed reading this piece, and I’m not sure I’d plan the way the writer did — only because it’s not in my nature — but for those of you who are delaying the process of taking off because of money worries, this article will surely give you some guidance and encouragement.

It is written by someone who wanted to take six months out after getting married, but was obviously preoccupied with how she can always be financially safe on her journey.

She covers:

  • How much did it cost?
  • How did they save the money for the trip?
  • How did they access money on the road?
  • How did they pay bills on the road?
  • Could they have done the trip for less?

Of course, what she writes is relative. Depending on your personality it could cost you more or way less. Either way, it’s an interesting account which demonstrates that if money is the issue, you can plan your way out of it and do that trip you’ve always wanted.
