Two common lessons learned from travels around the Americas

By the end of this year, my husband and I, who left the UK in February and are both location independent (we both earn an income from things that we can do anywhere in the world), will have traveled to and lived in the following places:

  • Panama for 2 months
  • Buenos Aires for 1 month
  • Toronto for 1 month
  • Grenada, WI for 5 months
  • Dubai for 1 month

…and boy have we learned a lot since we left.

There’s a couple of things we’ve learned however which are common to every single place we’ve been to and these are:

  • Ask a local taxi driver to share his knowledge and you’ll usually be in for a treat!
  • Wait until you arrive to organize longer term accommodation – you’ll save yourself money, hassle and usually get a far better place than you’d have got booking in advance over the internet, having had to base your choice on dodgy, misleading or no photos.

Note: The last point is something we failed to learn over and over again and have paid the price (both financially and comfort-wise) on several occasions. Hopefully, we’ve finally learned our own lesson!
