Travel has a way of humbling you

I wish…usually most tourists I have seen in my life have been noisy, rude, or just plain weird (myself most likely included !) ! I think I am starting to understand why the Norwegians, in spite of having one of the prettiest countries in the world, are ambivalent about advertising it too much for tourism !

What a great quote! Anytime I feel too important, I know it’s time for a vacation. Traveling makes you humble, appreciative and happy once again.

When I started traveling (back when Fish had long tails and ruled the world) there were still a lot of hippies running around. They made garden-variety tourists look good by comparison.
When I started to think seriously about travel, I made a great fuss over the distinction between a traveler (good) and a tourist (pathetic). I still recognize the distinction, but do not think it as important as I once did.
