Samuel Huntington’s theory on the “clash of civilizations”

“In class and ideological conflicts, the key question was “Which side are you on?” and people could and did choose sides and change sides. In conflicts between civilizations, the question is “What are you?” That is a given that cannot be changed.”
–Samuel P. Huntington, “The Clash of Civilizations?”, Foreign Affairs, Summer 1993

One Response to “Samuel Huntington’s theory on the “clash of civilizations””

  1. Shirley Says:

What are you? That is very significant in society and has been unanswered for centuries. The problem is most people “follow” their friends or family into a zone of ignorance. Inside of saying, these are my thoughts or beliefs, they would rather say, “My family is this religion” or “My friends don’t like this or that”… It’s all about forming your own mind, your own foundation of life and standing firm on those beliefs.
