Pessimism can be a self-reinforcing exercise

“Most people see the world as a threatening place, and, because they do, the world turns out, indeed, to be a threatening place.”
–Paulo Coelho, The Alchemist (1988)

I won’t agree with the title of this presumed quote:
But if you reflect on your own life… the paths you’ve chosen to trod upon; eventually; fate takes you on an un knowing, dangerous blindly extremely exciting and scary wandering . This particular author…this book; might weld me on a course I don’t yet know the outcome…. But travel, adventure leads us on a wandering for understanding. And that; for that; I will never shy too.

So true. If you think that the world is a “threatening place” then the universe will bring to you information that shows you that the world is a threatening place. Look at how the H1N1 has stopped people from traveling because they are so fearful they’ll catch a cold. If you have kids, chances are you more likely to catch something from them then on an airplane!
