Great quote, Rolf. I’d also like to expand it a little bit: Our home–our nest–doesn’t have to just be in one place. The going and coming of travel can weave our nest, but our nest might very well be a global one.
Hmm, well now I’m kinda worried. My stuff is mostly in storage, and my condo is mostly empty, and I sleep on the couch because I don’t have a bed anymore, because I’m hardly ever at “home” anymore. So not sure how that quote applies to my life lol.
A traveler should care more about the quality of his sleep than the location of his bed. For ten years my impedimenta were stored in daughter’s barn, guarded by a large, friendly cat. I kept adding to it as I traveled, all the time keeping in mind what I wanted my home finally to look like. Then two years ago we got a small condo and I pried open the packing crates and unloaded all those things I had been carrying around in my head and finally have the home I was building in my mind all that time I was wandering.
But don’t rely on things to make your home, as things can be lost. A great advantage we have as travelers is that we accumulate memories that can furnish our home wherever we are.

I LOVE this quote. It has such beautiful imagery – to imagine us weaving our own nest of memories as we travel. Thanks for sharing!
