Writing a personal manifesto

Lululemon Athleticas Manifesto

Lululemon Athletica's Manifesto

Happy New Year vagabonders! As we head into 2010, let’s think about going further than making New Year’s Resolutions.

Brave New Traveler advocates making your own personal manifesto. Start writing down goals, collecting articles and pictures, putting anything vagabonding-related into it. Instead of a new year resolution that’s filed and forgotten, a personal manifesto should be a living, breathing document that is constantly being added to.

The book “Major in Success” describes a similar motivational technique called “power journalizing.” The great thing about writing down your dreams is that it “activates” your subconscious. Once you’ve set your intentions,  your subconscious can go to work to attract the right vibes.

You become hyper-aware of anything that will move you closer to your goals, whether it’s a book, a website, or even meeting the right person. This isn’t meant to be opportunistic, just to be awake to the chances that we’re given. We have to know what we want, before we can recognize opportunities when they come up.

In the past, when I’ve really focused on something, I’d suddenly stumble into all sorts of things related to that goal.  For example, I’ve gotten interested in New York City, and now I’m meeting so many people with an NYC connection. Have any of you ever had experiences like that?

This is a great writing exercise! In 2009, there’s was a lot authors writing books about the subconscious and how it can attract the right vibes and people. However, you must take action as well. Taking “inspired action” is the key, not just any old action. Most people are confused by this. Here’s to a successful 2010!
