What if you never traveled?

We’ve all had a “what if” moment — especially in regards to travel: “What if I quit my job and traveled for a year?” “What if I never came back?” But have you ever thought about what would be different if you hadn’t traveled?

The BootsnAll Travel Community is always full of great discussion, whether it’s utilitarian or philosophical in nature, and every once in awhile there’s one post that really makes you think. Recently, a BootsnAll member who goes by the name of quimby thought about how her life would be different if she hadn’t gone on her RTW trip. There are, of course, the more transcendent reasons: a greater understanding of other cultures, a deeper connection to self — but quimby’s RTW trip gave her a much more practical habit:

This morning, before I put on my boots (hiking boots of course), I ritually tipped them over to make sure there were no scorpions or other unwanted guests inside. The catch is, I live in the Northeastern USA and it was snowing, not the climate you’d expect to find boot buddies. This is one of those things I still do out of habit since I went RTW.

This got me thinking, going RTW changes us all in big and not so big ways that stay with us forever.

If quimby had never gone on her long trip, among other things, she “wouldn’t check for creepy crawlies” in her boots. How would you complete the sentence, “If I never went RTW, I…”?
