Want the best job in the world?

The best job in the world is any job that you love. That said, who wouldn’t love a job that primarily involves strolling white sand beaches, snorkeling the Great Barrier Reef and take care of “a few minor tasks” on a tropical island?

Australia’s Queensland state government is currently offering what it calls “the best job in the world” — earning 150,000 Australian dollars (105,000 US) for hanging out in a hammock on a tropical island for six months.

The job is open to anyone, no need to be Australian (which, frankly, seems a bit odd, but I’m not fighting it).

Your destination is Hamilton Island on the Great Barrier Reef where, from the AFP’s write up, it sounds like your principle job will be blogging about how much damn fun Queensland is and how anyone and everyone should come for a visit.

The job runs from July 1, 2009 to January 1, 2010, during which time you will live in a three-bedroom home on Hamilton Island. And yes, you can bring family, though an unspecified limit on the number of people does exist.

Acting Queensland state Premier Paul Lucas tells the AFP that the winning applicant will “have to talk to media from time to time about what they’re doing so they can’t be too shy and they’ll have to love the sea, the sun, the outdoors.”

The dream job is apparently Queensland’s attempt to combat tough economic times by circumventing the typical glossy brochures with something more unique.

If you’d like to throw your resume in the hat, head over to islandreefjob.com. Create and upload a short video explaining why you’re the best person for the job and demonstrating your knowledge of the Islands of the Great Barrier Reef. The tourism board says to make sure your video is “entertaining and engaging,” and keep in mind that videos should be under 60 seconds long with a file size under 100MB.

There’s also a brief application form to fill out, and be sure to read the privacy statement as well as the terms and conditions.
