Voting and traveling: not mutually exclusive

Crazy politics aside, it’s just as crazy to not vote in the upcoming US elections—even if you’re living abroad or traveling on November 4th. (I’m a huge believer in accounting for every vote. Have you seen how close some of these elections have been?)

Eva posted a great blog about the topic a few weeks ago, but I wanted to add a few links for last-minute registering and voting tips for vagabonds.

Good news: you can still register to vote in many states. The deadlines differ from state to state, but they’re all approaching soon. (Missouri’s deadline is today!)

If you’ll be traveling on November 4th and want to vote ahead of time—either in person or through absentee voting—you can do that. Check out the 30 states that offer early voting, and the deadlines for absentee voting.

Something new this year: a cool (and cheap/free!) way to mail your ballot back to the States from 89 countries. Just sign up online through Overseas Vote Foundation, and you’ll get your ballot and a FedEx airway bill that covers the return shipping cost.

And if you still have questions about the issues or voting options in your state, check out Election Protection, a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization.

Did I mention?…There are only 27 days until Election Day!

I totally agree. I submitted my overseas ballot request a few weeks ago and joined Democrats Abroad in my area. Still waiting for the ballot to come – I’m hoping everything went okay!
