Updating the “Vagabonding” resources: Week 4, Chapter 4 part 2

Welcome to the 4th week in a 10-week-long series here on Vagablogging where we’re asking you, faithful readers, to help us compile the biggest, baddest collection of links for the resource section of the yet-to-be-released second edition of Rolf’s book. This week we’re dealing with the second section of chapter 4’s resources, which was broken into two parts due to its size. (Click here to check out the first section.) Here are the topics we’re covering:

Independent travel magazines
General travel magazines
Student travel resources
Bargain air travel information
Online air ticketing services
Other online air ticket resources
Travel insurers

To see what resources were included in the first edition of the book, click the category above.

As per usual, I’ll get the ball rolling with a few suggestions of my own:

For Bargain air travel information, I’ll recommend WhichBudget.com, which is perfect for answering the question, “Which budget airline flies from Country X to Country Y?” For Online air ticketing services, I’ll offer up the always-lovely Kayak.com. Now it’s your turn! Do you know of any website links, books, or other resources that need to be included in the second edition of Vagabonding? Tell us in the comment section of this post.

To suggest a resource for an earlier chapter, visit the resource updates archive.

Next week we’ll be covering Chapter 6: Cross-cultural resources and Resources for female travelers.

A few travel magazines that I’ve just come across: Culture + Travel (cultureandtravel.com), Global Traveler (globaltravelerusa.com), Any Way (www.anyway-magazine.com).

I have found this site to be very useful when researching fares:

    https://matrix.itasoftware.com/cvg/dispatch

I found it through a link at clarkhoward.com and he describes the site like this: Shop for the lowest worldwide rates here (you can log in as a guest or register for future use). For a wide range of available sale dates (rates shown are inclusive of all taxes, fees), click on the Month Search button at the top right. You cannot book directly from this site, but complete an online purchase directly at an airline Web site.

What about PerceptiveTravel.com? It’s not a mag in the print since, but like WorldHum, better than most of the print ones. I think Rolf won an award for a story he had in there once right?
