Two useful websites for Vagabonds traveling to Europe this Summer

If you’re planning to head to Switzerland or Austria this year for Euro 2008 but you’re worried about the weak dollar and the hassle of finding affordable accomodation, you might want to check out Sleep-In - a Swiss venture which aims to pair local residents in both countries with fans looking for a cheap (sometimes free) bed.

According to the site, here’s how it works:

“Hosts can make accommodation offers during Euro 08, and visitors can choose the ones they find most suitable. Those visiting can say something about themselves and what they hope to find in an accommodation during their stay. The hosts can then choose whomever they like. From there, you work the rest out on your own.”

And if you’re planning on a trip to the UK and want to save money on local transport (especially with single tickets on the Tube now costing £4 - that’s about $8), you might like to consider walking.

WalkIt.com provides you with the best routes to walk all or part of your journey in four major cities in the UK (London, Birmingham, Edinburgh and Newcastle). You can choose a route that is direct, less busy or goes via a certain landmark - and in London, you can now choose a “pollution aware” route which helps you avoid walking through the most polluted areas.
