When I go to Canada and Alaska on my various hikes (I always go alone) my wife insists I rent a satellite phone.
I also use them on cruises.

I have used satellitephonerentals.org for years to rent phones. They are cheap, fast and use only the best service, Iridium and the Motorola 9505a and the latest the 9555 model.
Their web page says they had one of the first 20 commercial web pages in history...wow! March 1994.
Just my humble opinion. JD
