Wait till everyone else is on and then when boarding, use your best smile and ask the friendliest looking flight attendant if there is any chance of you getting seated in a better class. Sometimes they overfill the economy class, and you get bumped up. I once even got seated in first class after they let the standby people on before I boarded.
