The road goes on

varanasi meditation under umbrella

Today is my last post here at Vagablogging. It’s the old story of too many projects and too little time.

First, thanks to Rolf, Scott, and the VB crew for the chance to work together over the past 14 months. Second, a grander thanks to you, the reader, for consistently lending an ear and a comment, no matter your degree of agreement.

A brief look-back: Over the past 30 months — stretching back to the end of a six month India/Nepal trip in ’08 — I traveled vagabond-style (and got paid to do it) for three, just over 10% of the time. Considering the average Two Weeks of Vacation approach brings just under 4% road-time per year, I’m happy to have averaged about 36.5 days abroad/year.

For those asking, “What did you do?”, it didn’t involve teaching English, travel writing, photography, online poker, nor web development. I did a project for a Connecticut-based custom rug company to find custom weavers and lay the foundation for four new handmade product lines. The workweek was closer to 44 hours than 4. It was tasty, lonely, and thrilling.

Since midsummer, the bulk of my energy goes toward helping travelers at the Glasbern Inn, located on a working farm just outside of Allentown, PA. As a B&B inn and restaurant (with a menu built around ingredients sustainably raised on the farm), it’s a place where people can get a few nights of simple relaxation in the midst of who knows how many weeks of hard work. Give me a call at 610-285-4723 if you want to stop by.

And though it’s been slightly neglected of late, thoughts on travel will continue to appear on State of Place, my personal blog.

Thanks again and Buen Camino.

Ultreia!
