I've met people through meetup.com in travels and found random groups I belong to. I also keep in touch with Couchsurfing friends (<a href="http://www.couchsurfing.com/people/irishpolyglot" rel="nofollow">here's my profile</a>) and just met up with someone that contacted me from a key word I said on <a href="http://twitter.com/irishpolyglot" rel="nofollow">my twitter account</a>, at least the English version of it. A person I met through Matador happened to be in San Francisco and showed me around! My travels would be so different without the Internet :D Some people find it scary meeting people online... I find the thought of a world without that possibility scary!! :-P Social networking sites on the net have changed everything!!
