Summer Escapes 2006: My latest article in Outside Magazine

I have a short article in the current issue of Outside magazine, which is part of the “Trust Us, Your Lawn Can Wait” Summer Escapes 2006 spread (which includes other short pieces by Will Palmer, Kate Siber, Tim Nevile, Kimberly Lisagor, and Dennis Lewon).

My article is called “Just Hit Escape,” and details the process of trying to plan a last-minute weekend getaway (from my Kansas home) using online travel planning services like Site59, Travelocity, and Mobissimo. “Last-minute travel websites tout tantalizing possibilities,” I write, “but now I need to know: Is it truly possible for me to be in Miami or Cancun or Ibiza by this time tomorrow — even out of a small-market airport like Wichita? Ahead on my deadlines and feeling adventurous, I open a browser window and begin to investigate.”
