Matador’s Traveler’s Notebook will pay for your best travel stories

Looking for somewhere to publish your favorite travel stories and hilarious narratives? Matador Travels’ “notes for the road” section is once again accepting submissions.

Matador’s “notes for the road” is a bit different than most travel writing submissions on the site (and elsewhere for that matter) in that there’s no how-tos, guides, top ___ places to ____ or other travel writing mundanities. The hook with “notes for the road” is narrative — you know, good, fun to read stories, the kind with beginnings, middles and endings.

If that sounds like what you’ve been wanting to write, check out the guidelines over on Traveler’s Notebook. There’s nothing to complex — stories need to be between 400 – 800 words, be actual stories (i.e. that beginning, middle, and end part), have characters, convey your own voice and few other suggestions.

Also beware, what not to send:

  • Stories over 800 words
  • Stories with the words / phrases ‘nestled’, ‘a paradise for nature lovers’, ‘the heart of’, ‘snowcapped’, ‘a must-do’
  • Stories that end with tidy conclusions
  • Stories that are just the narrator pontificating / judging without interacting

If you think you have what it takes, check out the submission process and of course bear in the mind that Matador is one of the few online publishers that actually pays (albeit only $25, but it’s better than nothing) so there will likely be a good bit of competition.
