Last day to enter travel writing contest

Last chance to polish up that travel article that’s been rattling around on your computer or in your brain to enter the Bradt Travel Guides / The Independent on Sunday contest! This year’s theme is “Destination Unknown”. Entries must be under 800 words and submitted by noon on May 15.

The first place winner will receive a holiday for two in Colombia and have their winning story published in The Independent on Sunday (and receive a commission from the paper).

The contest is open to published and unpublished writers, aged 18 and over. When unpublished writers enter the competition, they are also eligible for a special unpublished writer prize: a travel-writing course in Cordoba, Spain in October 2009. Of course, unpublished writers will also be eligible for the grand prize trip to Colombia.

For inspiration, check out the 2007 and 2008 winning entries. For more details, please see the 2009 competition rules.
