Hitchhiking to 50 state capitals in 50 days or less

Scotty and Fiddy—fresh out of college—recently forestalled their jump into the business world to instead spend 50 days attempting to hitchhike to each of the 50 U.S. state capitals. Naturally, they’re documenting the trip for all to see.

“This gives us the opportunity to meet fun people and see fun places all over the USA. During the process we’ll also get the opportunity to neglect sleep, nutrition and exercise for almost two months….which is awesome.”

Their website, Hitch50.com, is filled with enough high-tech features to keep you busy as they progress across America. Most compelling is their cell phone link to Google Maps, which gives up-to-the-minute updates of their exact coordinates, twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week.

“If you zoom in you can see the exact building we’re in, or the exact corner we just took on the highway…it’s actually really creepy.”

And quite addicting to watch.

The site is admittedly more of a social experiment than a true hitchhiking voyage. Aside from passing motorists, the pair is using the website as a tool to gain rides and score couches for sleep throughout their journey. With enough support from the media, and subsequently more hits to the site, the trip becomes easier as more and more potential rides track their progress, bringing them closer to their goal of 50 in 50.

Is it possible? We shall see. But for now, head over to Hitch50.com to see where the guys are today.
