Have you quit a RTW trip partway through?

The question of taking mini-breaks at home between legs of a RTW trip came up on the BootsnAll boards (and consequently here on Vagablogging) earlier this year, so when I saw this thread on the boards I thought it was an interesting follow-up.

BootsnAll member K2 is currently in Johannesburg and, he says, feeling a big homesick – as well as physically sick. So it’s probably natural that he’s beginning to wonder if a break from his round the world trip back in the comforts of home might not be such a bad idea. He’d like to hear from anyone else who either took breaks at home between RTW legs or quit their trip altogether to return home earlier than they’d planned.

I’d like to hear from those who quit their RTW trips or even took a break half way and went home for a break. What made you decide to do it?

Did you put a halt to your travels earlier than you’d anticipated you would? Did you plan to visit home a few times during your long-term travels? In either case, what was your motivation? And what advice would you give to K2?

Please chime in with your thoughts on this thread on the BootsnAll boards.

And as an aside, if you’re prepping for a RTW trip and interested in what tech-related gear you might bring along on your trip, don’t miss this month’s Round the World Ticket Watch newsletter – it’s all about flashpacking, including what to bring and what to leave home.
