Don’t let the things you own own you

“You buy furniture. You tell yourself this is the last sofa I will ever need in my life. Buy the sofa, then for a couple of years you’re satisfied that no matter what goes wrong, at least you’ve got your sofa issue handled. Then the right set of dishes. Then the perfect bed. The drapes. The rug. Then you’re trapped in your lovely nest, and the things you used to own, now they own you.”
–Chuck Palahniuk, Fight Club (1996)

Ha…now everything I own fits in two bags and is below the maximum baggage allowed.

Well, okay, apart from the big TV that’s stopping at my parents’ place.

Lovely quote – that’s the beauty of owning two pieces of cheap ikea funiture and secondhand couches: I’d leave those things on the curb in a second to take off to my next destination.

Watch ‘Fight Club’ and listen to Between Angels And Insects – by Papa Roach.

Life is survival. We need our neccesities to get ahead in life. Does 300 dollar clothes and 5 million dollar cars to really make you that happy? I tell you what makes me happy, coming home to a nice home cooked meal and some nice air conditioning during a 90 degree Fahrenheit day.
