Checking out vagabondish.com

Four years ago, Rolf wrote about what happened when he first looked in to purchasing a “vagabonding” domain name. He was surprised to find out that vagabonding.com was already taken. Since that time, the travel blogosphere has exploded with “vagabonding”-related sites, like vagabonding.org, vagabondboots.com, and the Washington Post’s suspiciously titled Vagablog. I’m still waiting for vagabonding.gov, which I expect any day now.

Most of these are well worth visiting (vagabonding.org in particular for improving your Italian), but my new favorite one of these sites is Vagabondish, which bills itself as a “Travelzine for Today’s Vagabond.” The site is full of feature articles, dispatches, and advice, and new content is added every day.

Look particularly at this article about how to overcome pre-trip fears. My favorite part:

Even in a culture far removed from your own, people are people, food is food, a bed is a bed (sometimes!) and there are fewer and fewer places where phone and internet don’t reach. In short: the world ain’t Mars.

You’ll also find some great packing tips (light! light! light!), how to keep busy on the seven-day Trans-Siberian train ride, and scads of other articles about subjects you didn’t even know you were interested in.

Well, go take a look already.

Thanks for the mention, Aaron! Rolf’s book (and this blog) has been a huge inspiration for me and much of the reason why I began writing about travel to begin with.

I agree completely, the Vagabondish.com blog is at the top of this smoldering mountain of internet travel writing. In point, it is informative and it makes me laugh. Vagabondish Mike (I think that is your name), if you ever read this, Wade from , Song of the Open Road Travel Blog thinks that you are a funny man!

Great posts about a great travel resource!

    Wade
