An online look at the curious corners of the Moscow Metro

English Russia is an “entertainment blog devoted to the events happening in Russian speaking countries.” Its daily posts consist of frequently amusing photo essays of life in Eastern Europe and Russia. The site is a vivid reminder of the unusual characters and situations one runs across when traveling, and its posts are fascinating and often hilarious.

Take for example this collection of photos taken in the subways of Moscow. The Moscow Metro is known for its elaborate architecture and museum-like quantities of socialist realist art — but this set features passengers sleeping in odd arrangements, or transporting large items not appropriate for a mass transit setting.

If the architecture is more of an interest than slumbering passengers, Beeflowers.com has an incredible collection of photos detailing a handful of the 172 stations on the Moscow metro system.
