RTW without a camera – no photos!

I’m the kind of traveler who hardly can contemplate a trip to the store without tossing a small camera in my bag – so the concept of setting out for a long-term trip without a camera is inconceivable to me. Yet that’s just what BootsnAll member circusoflife is planning to do.

Circusoflife is currently without any cameras in his life, and is about to set off on his second long-term trip. This time it’s … Read more »

Finding a good kayak outfitter while vagabonding

Kayaks on the beachKayaking is a great way to explore a place. The skinny craft is multi-faceted: It goes through churning whitewater, along lake and estuary coastlines, and can even catch a wave. But when you’re traveling, how do know which operators are truly professional and which you should avoid?

Prices for kayak rentals and short, guided trips can be affordable for vagabonders, depending on the … Read more »

I stayed at an all-inclusive resort….and I liked it

allcinclusiveOkay, actually I didn’t. Candice Walsh did. And on her blog, Candice Does the World, she makes a pretty good case for why that is perfectly okay.

Living without money in London

2766976463_d1600705cf_mSimplicity and, by association, frugality, are key traits of most successful vagabonds. Want less, do more is a good — if oversimplified — soundbite description of the way most long term travelers live.

Naturally there is considerable variation within that tenant. Some vagabonds get rid of everything entirely, others simply throw their possessions in a cheap storage … Read more »

The Mojave airport plane graveyard

The coolest things I see while traveling are the deserted, ruinous old buildings and the weird desert art projects or memorabilia of things that used to be there, like Tinkertown or Pioneertown or the Desert Christ Park.

One of the coolest among the cool is the currently fully functioning but oddly deserted Mojave airport (technically the Mojave Air and Space Port).  Mojave is a small desert town about two hours north … Read more »
