Trip Takes: short film competition

If film is your medium and travel is your muse, you’re in luck—Condé Nast and CineVegas are waiting for video footage from your recent trip.

Their new short film competition, Trip Takes, asks for films that “capture the power of travel.” You’ll want to send in your video by February 15, 2008. The destination and genre are up to you—as long as the film is no longer than five minutes long. The films will be judged equally on originality, creativity, and relevancy to the topic of travel.

If you’re one of the five finalists, you’ll be flown to Las Vegas for the Tenth Annual CineVegas Film Festival, which runs June 12–21, 2008. While in Las Vegas you’ll get to screen your flick in front of an audience and jury (which includes Dennis Hopper, chair of the CineVegas Creative Advisory Board). The jury will vote for the first place winner, who wins $5,000 cash and a trip for two. And the festival and online audience will vote for the second place winner, who wins $2,500 cash.

The contest is open to US residents who are at least 21-years-old by the date of entry. You can find the official rules, check out the competition, and submit your film by visiting the Trip Takes website.
