I Always Thanked a Cowboy Jesus That...Michael Jackson Was My Dog

Just a quick note to say that the current issue of the literary journal Fence contains a short story by my cousin Daniel Rolf (who once took the Trans-Siberian railroad from Beijing to Moscow with me).

Dan's story is entitled "Back When I Prayed I Always Thanked a Cowboy Jesus That My Mom Was My Mom and Michael Jackson Was My Dog Because I Couldn't Imagine Anything So Perfect" -- and it reads with the kind of drug-addled, slightly hallucinatory intensity reminiscent of the stories in Denis Johnson's Jesus' Son.

Issues of Fence are available at select bookstores, and by subscription or special order.

Ah, come on Rolf, just post the story and share his experiences with the world.

Rolf:

I would, Carl, but I only have it in pdf format right now...

I've long wondered about that pdf format, which I don't like and find fairly obnoxious, except for legal documents such as stuff from the government.

Otherwise, why would anyone post something in pdf? And yeah, you can't copy and paste from that format so articles never start circulating around the net. And isn't that the point of writing, to either make money with it, or share it with the world?

Ideally, both.

Also, are you still following Drive Around the World? I've got them subscribed on my RSS reader, and they are having a grand time in Alaska and Canada.

i fucking dig the shit out of your site. which is saying a lot, since i think most sites are so lame they cause cancer.

Rolf:

Cheers, Sabrina!

Carl, I'll shoot you an email in a moment...
